the mistake that i have made, and how you can avoid it
Most people think wasting time means watching TV series all day, scrolling on social media, or going out with friends too much. And yeah, I mean, those are a waste of time. But there is another type of wasting time, one that I have learned in a long time.
I never liked the idea of wasting any type of resource. I was working at a startup, and I thought I was being effective by reading chats, answering clients, and checking Jira and Slack all day. But at the end of the day, when you ask yourself what have I actually accomplished today, the answer is simple. Nothing.
Being busy is not equal to being productive. Being effective, useful, and being a contributor, is what being productive means.
The feeling of being around your coworkers, talking with them, having access to company data, and constantly checking Jira is dangerous. You can end up in a loop where you feel like you're doing good, when in fact you're just an unused resource. And wasting a resource is bad.
That was my experience. It might be a simple thing to overlook, we need to be careful. So instead, I've learned it's better to be effective, useful, and energetic. When you're energetic, you're happy. And that happiness gives off a different kind of energy or vibe to the people around you. That's what I'm striving for now.
